Glass Overload

My name is Debbie and I'm addicted to glass.   My family is threatening to kick me to the curb if I don't 'curb' my glass & thrift store addiction; sssooooooo, I've been bringing home boxes from work and have promised to fill at least two boxes per week and get rid of it until the house actually looks like a house again.

This is a corner of the family room; looks more like an Anchor Hocking clearance bin.

We don't have a big house by any means and no basement; so I've tucked away pieces under end tables, in closets, under beds, was even storing a few boxes in a shower we don't use often!  (And kept the shower curtain closed of course! ha)

 Yes, I'll be the first to admit, it's gotten a little out of control.  I've got lots of pieces I bought just because the price was excellent and I THOUGHT they'd work good in totems or plantstands but they don't, so time to get rid of them.

I have made good progress already.  You'll be proud to hear yesterday I actually TOOK three boxes of glass and two bags of other stuff TO the Thrift Store; some still had the TS prices on them!   It did feel a little weird to walk out of the store without even walking around to see what they had but I did it (maybe also because Rick was waiting for me with the car running at the curb).

Solid Lotion Bar Fun

Several ladies and I got together one night and made solid lotion bars that are all the rave these days.   It's easier than you think, lots of fun and instant reward!

The ingredients are:  one part beeswax, one part advocado oil or grapeseed oil and one part shea butter or cocoa butter.   Our hosts, Mary Jane and Joyce, already had this base put together for us.   All we needed to do was melt it down in the microwave (only takes about 30 seconds so keep an eye on it!), add our favorite essential oil scent (Mary Jane had lots to choose from!) and pour into molds.

Here's all our ingredients and supplies; the mixture in the mason jars is the base the girls already had together for us.



Here we have melted, added the fragrance and poured into the molds.   They started setting up right away but you can also put in the fridge to speed it up.



Here's the finished product; Joyce had these cute little heart molds; we also used mini muffin tins.





Ta-Da!  All wrapped up pretty like a gift!

  

We had a lot of fun and went home with a great product.   I keep one by my kitchen sink and use after every hand wash.   Solid Lotion Bar - it's a good thing!

Fun Little Magnets

These garden magnets have been fun to make probably because they don't take very long and they are just so darn cute.

I just cut out pictures from magazines and printed some words on colored paper, glued them to the back of the glass piece (not sure what they are called but can easily be found at your craft stores) and added the magnet.

Here are some still in process; need glued and magnets added.

The vintage metal tray was found at a thrift store for only 30 cents!!   It has a few bumps and bruises on it but I love the colors and flowers on it.   The wood easel was found later at another thrift store for only 90 cents and hubby painted it yellow and it looks great with the tray; a nice display piece for the magnets for the upcoming craft shows in November. 

Well, it looks to be a great day to be outside, so that's where I'll be.

Italian Flower Frog??!!

Look what I uncovered at a thrift store yesterday.   There were these ugly fake flowers in all the holes but it looks to me like a flower frog in the shape of an artichoke!   The bottom has some type of code and it's stamped "Italy"!

I have so many different crafts in the works, all in different stages of completion.  Do you do that too?   I either ran out of needed supplies, or it's not turning out like I wanted, or I got even more excited about a different project that I just had to start that one before I finished the other.   And I swear I'm not buying anymore stuff until I use what I have!   (But wait; wasn't I just at the thrift store yesterday?)

Some Garden Signs

Check out these cute garden signs I made, two of them using yet again, the countertop samples!  (Home Depot isn't going to let me back in! ha)   I found the little yellow daisy under the daisy sign at a garage sale just today; it used to be a necklace and it was only a quarter!  Love that!

(isn't the eyelet trim on this one just so cute??)

I need to come up with a cute display area in my house for taking pictures.   You should see my kitchen table when I'm making these signs.   Crap all over the place and the husband wonders where dinner is. ha!

The 'Garden Gala' Show

Last June, I was a vendor at the Circleville Garden Gala hosted by the Circle of Caring of Pickaway County, a wonderful group of volunteers who assist disabled folks with just about everything.   Here's a picture of my booth; that's my daughter in the background, enjoying a big slurpee; it was so stinkin' hot that day!!   My daughter is a huge help to me.

I had already sold quite a bit of stuff and even more later; it was a great sale.  I'll remind everyone next year in advance of the event so you can plan to attend.  Lots of beautiful gardens on tour and garden vendors!

Super-Cute Plant Markers

Check out these plant markers I made using free counter-top samples, a clothespin and some wire.  

(My totem is about 3 years old; I have it on a table on my porch because it kinda looks like a lamp.)

For the plantmarkers, I first spray-painted the little boards with black chalkboard paint (my first intention was to make the chalkboard tags like Margo does on robojunker.com but I wasn't happy with the texture mine came out with.  So next time, I'll probably just use plain black paint.)  Then I printed off the plant names and decoupaged them onto the tag with Mod-Podge.   I attached a 16-gauge wire to the clothespin and viola.  Here's a close-up.

Instant cute-ness!
